Welcome to the Itatani group web site.
We work on ultrafast optical sciences in soft X rays on femtosecond to attosecond time scales. Our research is based on the state-of-art high-peak-power femtosecond lasers which are developed by ourselves to keep our cutting edge status in ultrafast optical technologies. Following are the topics that we are currently dedicated to:
- Generation and control of short-wavelength attosecond optical pulses using high harmonic generation
- Development of novel ultrafast methods using high harmonics and their application to material sciences
In future, we hope to extend our research to the following fields:
-
Control of coherent electron wavepackets and their applications
- Search for novel ultrafast phenomena in super strong laser fields

Announcement- 5th AWCXR
Two internatinal workshops -- the 5th Asian Workshop on Generation and Applications of Coherent XUV and X-ray Radiation (AWCXR) & the ISSP International workshop on Coherent Soft X-ray Sciences -- will be jointly held in our Campus in June 2012. Please check the web site for further information.
- Location: Kashiwa Campus, The University of Tokyo
- Dates: June 27-29, 2012

To Join Our Group
The Itatani group can accept graduate students from the physics department of the University of Tokyo. Postdoctoral researchers may join using several fellowship programs. (Please note that applicants are supposed to consult with Dr. Itatani prior to the application.)
Our research fields are closely related to laser technologies, material sciences, and atomic and molecular physics. We therefore welcome positive candidates with different scientific backgrounds. Experiences on ultrafast optics, photo-ionization spectroscopy, and quantum chemistry would be a strong plus. For further information, please contact Dr. Itatani (See Members page for Email address).
